How does Pure whiten teeth?

At our teeth whitening spa, we utilize the Zoom!® In-Office Whitening System.  Zoom! is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin.

What causes tooth discoloration?

There are many causes.  Teeth discolor as we age or consume staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, etc.  During tooth formation,  consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.

Who may benefit from tooth whitening?

Almost anyone.  However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others.  The dentist can determine if your are a viable candidate for this procedure through a thorough oral exam, including a shade assessment.

What kind of results should I expect?

An average of 8 shades lighter in less than an hour while you relax at our spa.  It’s ideal for anyone who wants immediate results.

How does Zoom!® compare to other whitening options?

Zoom!®’s results are faster, better, and/or easier than Britesmile®, at-home trays,
at-home strips, or toothpaste.  Zoom! Advanced Power is the 3rd generation of the Zoom lamp,  and is only offered at a few dental offices at this time.  It’s the strongest whitening system currently on the market, where over 50% of patients achieved the highest shade possible on the shade guide.

How does Zoom!® work?

The Zoom!® Whitening procedure is simple and painless. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums.  The dentist then applies the proprietary Zoom!Whitening Gel, which is activated by a specially designed light.

The gel is a scientifically formulated, pH balanced Hydrogen Peroxide that, when activated by the Zoom! light, gently penetrates the teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged.  The Zoom! light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth.  A study has shown that use of the Zoom! lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 26% or more, giving an average improvement of eight shades.  With proper care and an occasional touch-up at home, your whiter smile will sparkle for years.

How is exposure to the Zoom! light controlled?

The Zoom! procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected.  The clinician is required to monitor the procedure to insure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and protected.  Protective eyewear is required during
the procedure.  Light sensitive individuals, including those undergoing PUVA therapy (Psoralen+UV Radiation) or other photochemotherapy, or patients with melanoma, should not undergo the Zoom! in-office procedure.  Also patients taking any light sensitive drugs or substances, whether over the counter, prescription or homeopathic, should consult their primary care physician prior to the procedure.  Anyone who is not eligible for Zoom! Chairside Whitening for these reasons may be an excellent candidate for Zoom! Take-Home.

Is whitening safe?

Yes, extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe.  In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available.  As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant  or lactating women.

How long do the results last?

By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before.  To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily, and occasional touch-ups with Zoom! take-home gel.   These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest.

How can I reduce my sensitivity from the treatment?

For sensitive patients, we recommend a fluoride gel such as Relief ACP(which can be purchased at the spa directly) for 3-4 days prior to treatment.  We will also provide an additional fluoride treatment at the end of the session.  Any sensitivity at all will usually last no more than 24 hours.

Are there any post whitening diet restrictions?

Yes!  Your teeth will be very susceptible to any color that you ingest for the first
24 hours following the treatment.  Therefore, all colored food and drinks such as coffee, red wine, etc. are restricted for only 24 hours.  We will provide a list of suggested items to you when we complete the treatment.
